Michael de la Peña graduated from the FBI Academy and served as an FBI Special Agent for almost 30 years. He worked at the New Haven, San Juan, and Boston offices of the FBI until his retirement in 2019. During his FBI career, Michael investigated bank robberies, armored car robberies, civil rights violations, fugitive matters, and terrorism cases. He also worked for six years on an anti-narcotics squad in Boston. During his tenure at the FBI, Michael became a certified FBI Hostage Negotiator, Undercover Operative, and Polygraph Examiner.
Michael conducted his polygraph training at the Department of Defense Polygraph Institute in Fort Jackson, South Carolina. In his 16 years of polygraph service, Michael conducted approximately 2,500 exams across the United States, Central and South America, and Iraq. As the son of Cuban refugees, he is a fluent Spanish speaker and also conducts polygraph examinations in Spanish. Michael has been a featured speaker on polygraph cases and concepts at the American Polygraph Association and other polygraph groups in Singapore and Ukraine at the invitation of those governments.
Michael is the author of the Coyote Wars Trilogy, an FBI suspense series featuring a family of domestic terrorists. This includes The Coyote Wars, The Last Coyote, and Coyote Rising in addition to a prequel, The Devil’s Henchmen. Michael received his B.A. in International Relations from George Washington University and now resides on the Gulf Coast of Florida. Michael currently advises the Albanian Polygraph Unit as a consultant.
